Environmentally Friendly Cremations
Whilst our major focus at The Natural Burial Company is for burial services, we also understand that for many reasons families may wish to choose cremation for their loved one. Therefore, we believe it important to offer the most environmentally friendly services we can to everyone, whether preference is for cremation or burial. For direct cremations we will plant three trees for each service conducted, one of which will be planted with the cremated remains at one of our natural burial grounds.
In recent years there has been an increase in direct cremations, initially due to high profile funerals such as that of David Bowie. More recently the covid crisis has necessitated this option for many in society. The advantages of such a service are clear, the cost is much below that of a traditional funeral and greater emphasis can be placed on what may be more appropriate ways to remember and celebrate a life. Especially for those who are not religious.
What is a Direct Funeral?
A direct funeral is conducted without the attendance of family, friends or officiant. Of course our team arrange and conduct the service with the respect and care that we always do. The respected Natural Burial Company team will personally arrange and conduct every aspect of the service in exactly the same way as we would an attended service. Care and respect is key to everything that we do.
Direct Cremation
After the cremation service you have the choice of having the cremated remains loosely interred, unattended with a tree at one of our natural burial grounds, or you can arrange a full attended service at the natural burial ground.
Please note that our Direct Cremations are followed by interment in one of our natural burial grounds with a tree in line with our ethos, we do not return cremated remains. If you wish for a Direct Cremation followed by the remains returned to you there are many very good companies that can provide this service for you.

Direct Natural Burial
The burial is conducted with the usual care and respect at
one of our natural burial grounds, but without a service and with no officiant or mourners present. The Natural Burial Company would select the grave plot, and this would remain unmarked. The family will be informed of the burial ground but would not be made aware of the exact location of the plot. However, a memorial tree and/or plaque may be purchased and be placed in our Memorial Area at the natural burial ground.
Full attended Natural Burial Services can also be provided for those who wish to arrange a full funeral service, but without the services of a traditional funeral director. Our team help and support you to arrange a complete Family Led Service.
